Shoes & Stories, HPAC, Chapel on Campus, Teachers, and Science Rats
The last month, I have been working on a few things outside of the classroom. I love feeling like a student and learning from the world outside of my own classroom!
First, I am working on an art installation called shoes and stories that creates empathy within our school and others schools in our neighborhood.
Second, the Hyde Park Art Center has some phenomenal work up right now included a HUGE art installation in the main room that you can climb! Alex Chitty is a friend of mine and has pieces up by the cafe.
Third, I have been making a point to visit other teacher's classrooms more often. While in the Science room, Mr. Maharry's rats were so funny! They kept looking out the window at the falling snow and then running like crazy on their wheel. Hilarious.
Last, the other week my husband, best friend and I climbed the 277 stairs up the Rockefeller Chapel to the Carillon which holds 72 bells! If you haven't done it, you are missing out!

Third Grade Self Portrait Crits
After finishing their self portraits, third graders did a fantastic job critiquing their work! Love to see and hear all the talk about process and materials!
Visiting the UC Charter Schools
I was lucky enough to tag-along while the third graders met their penpals at the the UC Charter Schools. It was a blast and I was so touched by all the new friendships formed!
CLAY!
Fourth Graders have been working with Clay and the hand-building technique called slab rolling. Students first made drawn self portraits (realistic) onto small tiles. Next, students made their own hand-build slab self portraits in an abstracted style. We are also exploring underglazes and if seeing the effect of putting the underglazes on BEFORE we bisque fire in the kiln.
