From the Cardboard Challenge... Art Edition

For this year's cardboard challenge, 4th graders worked with spray fixative (outside of course!) to transfer their school pictures to a piece of cardboard. Not only was it challenging, but it was really interesting to see what kind of image would transfer and what happened if you didn't follow directions! Here are some pictures of the action!

WELCOME BACK

Holy Smokes! I can't believe we are already into a new school year! Welcome to the Lower Schools Arts Blog for all of you that are new 3rd graders (and parents to said 3rd graders)!

I will post pictures of our projects/units as well as links to videos or imagery that we are discussing in class. I am so very excited to be teaching our wonderful third and fourth grade students this year!

Lab Arts 2016

Lab Arts 2016 has been another fantastic success! It even has been extended a week so it can still be on view until the end of the day on Thursday, May 12th. Here are a few pictures of my students checking out all the art!

In the Art Room

Students have been making some pretty phenomenal work in the art room of late. Third graders just finished some gorgeous prints around the idea of immigration/emigration/migration. A print from each student is up outside of the art room in Blaine. A few examples are below:

Fourth graders have been studying Afrofuturism! Two weeks ago, we visited the Nubia collection at the Oriental Institute and have now begun work on their large-scale silhouettes. TBC!

This Friday, our big art show, LABARTS begins in the Gordon Parks Arts Hall. It will be up during the school day on Friday, next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. I am very excited to see all the amazing work up for all to see!
